Islands 2020 - 2021

Objects appear as ‘islands’ floating on bodies of water. The reflections in the water are not of the hovering objects themselves; they are of something else, “a rupture in the apprehension of the real”. (Paul Virilio).

Islands are territories separated from other lands by water. They are sites of displacement and renewal that place here and elsewhere in dialogue. Afloat from the mainland islands become embodied spaces of imagination where one is constantly on the threshold of identity.  Islands are ecosystems interconnected in survival. Reflections come from stillness; they appear when the water is calm. The slow pace of island life offers solace and tranquility. I have been fortunate to live on many islands.
